People keep asking me what “professional competitiveness” is. Bottom line it’s about managing your career and your own evolution at any age, so that you can reduce your stress, look and feel great, and learn the mskills that matter to your current employer or potential employers. Staying employed and viable in a rapidly changing industry can be a challenge. Employers’ expectations change as new technical skills emerge, new business skills become required as technology and business practices change, and interpersonal skills are always key to staying viable as things change.
Being attractive to employers seems to become more of a challenge as we age. Our skills look dated, we cost employers more money than our younger colleagues, and sometimes we don’t “fit in culturally”. Many of us want to retire when we choose to and not when others choose to retire us. Being professionally competitive allows you to have more control over your career.
